Pick-A-Pocket Purse

The tutorial used can be found here.

Today I made a new bag over the course of about 2 hours. People who sew often will most likely complete this project much quicker. If you are not an experienced seamstress, the directions and diagrams are very easy to understand. I did make one minor adjustment: I topstitched around the top of the bag after the last step in the directions. Another adjustment you might think about is a closure for the top. I think a couple ribbons you can tie into a bow would be very cute, but velcro and magnetic snaps are always good too.I will definitely make another bag using this great tutorial from AllPeopleQuilt.com but I may cut the pieces twice as big!

I love the 6 pockets around the outside of the bag! I lose things in my purse all the time, and being able to put things in outside pocket saves me time and frustration looking for my cell or keys. The only issue I had was that I didn't realize how small this bag would turn out. I typically need a much bigger purse. For that reason, this bag will end up a traveling knitting bag or a gift.

Cost Breakdown

Faux Chicken Fried Rice

(serves 2)

9oz chicken breast
3 cups cauliflower
1 cup Egg Beaters (egg whites or even whole eggs will work too)
2 Tbsp Franks Hot Sauce

1) Slice chicken breast into thin strips, season with salt and pepper, then grill.
2) Spray skillet with cooking spray then pour in Egg Beaters and scramble. Remove from skillet.
3)Put cauliflower (raw or frozen) in the food processor and chop until desired size (about the size of a piece of rice). Heat cauliflower in skillet until desired tenderness (I prefer mine a bit less cooked than "rice")
4) Work in the other ingredients until well mixed. Add additional salt, pepper, hot sauce to taste.

Junk Trunk Upcycle

One thing several of our instructors and members have in common is our love of upcycling/crafting! We got to see some amazing items you created last year at Pinning for a Purpose (our charity silent auction). We would love to feature your ideas! Just facebook message them to Floyd's Knobs Jazzercise or Emily Turner.

Our first up-cycle was from Emily & Aaron Turner. Emily bought an $8 army trunk from craigslist. They tore out the original paper lining (which was in horrible condition), measured inside and glued in wooden dowels to hold shelves.

Next, they used wood filler to fill a place on the bottom of the trunk where the wood liner had warped away from the shell. Once the filler was dry, Emily Mod Podged (Matte) in pages from a $3 Atlas she bought at the Peddlers Mall in Clarksville. Emily & Aaron then went to Home Depot and purchased a $6 sheet of particle board, which a wonderful employee cut to the sizes needed for the shelves. She painted the shelves and inserted them to rest on the dowel rods.

Now Emily just has to decide what treasures to put inside her new corner shelf. She is currently combing through treasures and trying out things. Whatever she picks, there is a good chance it also came from a flea market!

Prices:
       Trunk            $8
       Atlas             $3
       Shelves         $6
Paint             $0 (Already had from a previous project)
Mod Podge   $0  (Already had from a previous project)

Introducing Winnie Green

Winnie Green

I started Jazzercising about 6 years ago at Floyds Knobs Jazzercise in the building behind where we are now!  Do you remember that building?  The floors were a little bit slanted but we were never without a great workout with amazing instructors and a super fun time!  I was always glad I decided to turn off the news and race up here for an hour of “me time”!  I took a few years off and boy, was I not happy with how I felt.  I constantly thought about my thighs, my weight, my health, and I felt guilty for not taking care of myself!  I was about to hit 40 and I made the decision that I would be in the best shape of my life…or at least be on the path!  I started Jazzercise again about 4 years ago and became an instructor and owner 3 years ago.  Being a part of this Jazzercise family has given me energy, strength, and a renewal of spirit!  I’m around women who are girls at heart and I can’t help but smile and be grateful for my Floyds Knobs Jazzercise family!  Not only has this been great for my booty (yes, I said it!) but it has been just what my soul and heart needed!  I’m not so business minded so when I shifted my thoughts to being mission minded with FK Jazzercise, everything changed for me!  I’m not in it for the money but for the change that happens to each of us when we are around other women, the excitement that happens when we are proud for making the decision to trek to Jazzercise for the hour, and for the deep sense I have to be a positive force in the lives of each friend I make and walk this path with.

I am the insanely blessed wife of Chris Green and we have three super awesome kids!  Jack Brown is a sophomore at Cincinnati Christian University studying ministry and business, Gracie Brown is a freshman at Ozark Christian College in Joplin, MO studying intercultural missions, and Tyler Green is a sixth grader at Highland Hills!  We enjoy our time together and with our pets, Lucy the Yorkie and Lilly the cat!  Chris is an accountant and business owner and I’m a former a bunch of things, elementary teacher, seamstress, etc….  I’m still trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up!  I’m very proud of my family and feel so blessed everyday!

I would love for our center to grow and be a big blessing and positive part of many others lives!  We have so much room for growth and I welcome any ideas you have to help us keep reaching out and growing!  Thank you all for your sincere support and for showing up for class!  Love you all!

Introducing Christy Nash

Meet Christy Nash!  She is married to Greg Nash, a Financial Advisor at Edward Jones, and together they have three wonderful children: Foster, Cooper and Felicity (a future Jazzercise Instructor). Christy's hobbies include spending time with her family, Health Coaching, decorating, and shopping at the Peddlers Mall.

Christy graduated from Purdue University (Boiler Up!) with a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D). She founded and directed the Mathes Diabetes Center, became a Clinical Assistant Professor at Purdue University, and then became a Certified Health Coach, guiding others in learning how to live a longer, healthier life. Christy is a firm believer in preventative health and teaches monthly classes on the Habits of Health (examples: healthy eating, movement/exercise, healthy sleep, stress management and healthy relationships), a system created by Christy's mentor, Dr Andersen.

Christy began Jazzercising in 2010. She decided to become an instructor in August of 2011, when Christy said that Janet Kreutner attacked convinced her that it would be simple, fun and help Christy improve her health. Christy became Certified in the fall of 2011.

When asked about the effect that Jazzercise has had on her life, Christy said that it has improved her overall health, her feelings of wellbeing and her happiness. She loves spending time dancing with her friends and creating lasting friendships in which she can share motivation and encouragement. She said that not only has Jazzercise touched her own life, but her family as well. She loves that her children see her exercise and she is able to instill in them the love of being healthy.

If you'd like a sample of Christy's dancing skills and instructing abilities, please follow this video to youtube.com to view her performance at the 2013 Purdue Pharmacy Banquet. Isn't youtube wonderful? Special thanks to Lynn Fletcher, who captured this priceless moment.

Welcome!

Welcome to our first ever blog! We are so very excited to have this great social outlet! We plan to share motivation, stories, recipes, DIY's (We're on Pinterest now!) and life in general with you. I've always felt that my ladies (and occasionally gentlemen) at Jazzercise were an extension of my family, so my hope is that we can all dance toward health together! Stay tuned for our future posts!
